What is DBT

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy is a type of evidence based psychotherapy developed by psychologist Dr. Marsha Linehan in the late 1980's, originally to treat people with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Since then, it's been adapted to help with a variety of mental health conditions, including:

  • Emotion dysregulation

  • Chronic suicidal ideation

  • Self-harm

  • PTSD

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Eating disorders

  • Substance use disorders

Emotion Dysregulation

Emotion dysregulation is the difficulty in understanding, managing, or responding to emotional experiences in a flexible and effective way. It means your emotions feel too intense, last too long, or come on too quickly—and they often drive your behavior in ways that feel out of control or harmful.
